Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed is best)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (or more for extra heat)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Rinse the chicken wings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  3. In a large bowl, combine vegetable oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Toss the chicken wings in this mixture until evenly coated.
  4. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer on the rack.
  5. In a medium saucepan, combine orange juice, soy sauce, honey, sriracha sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir well.
  6. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally.
  7. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth. Slowly whisk into the simmering sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  8. Taste the sauce and adjust the heat level if necessary.
  9. Bake the wings for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  10. About 10 minutes before the wings are done, brush them with the spicy orange sauce and return to the oven.
  11. Ensure wings are crispy and have an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  12. Place wings in a large bowl and pour remaining sauce over them. Toss gently to coat.
  13. Transfer wings to a serving platter and sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
  14. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the wings in the spice mixture and some of the sauce for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight.
  • For crispier wings, broil for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
