  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 24 churro bites 1x

Description

Enjoy these crispy churro bites, coated in cinnamon sugar and perfect for dipping in chocolate or caramel sauce. A delightful treat that’s easy to make and great for sharing!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (such as pecans or almonds)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Chocolate sauce (for dipping, optional)
  • Caramel sauce (for drizzling, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, unsalted butter, and salt. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to ensure the butter melts completely.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat and add the all-purpose flour and ground cinnamon all at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the pan (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. Allow the dough to cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until the dough is smooth and glossy.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and chopped nuts until evenly distributed.
  6. In a deep frying pan or heavy-bottomed pot, pour enough vegetable oil to fill it about 2-3 inches deep.
  7. Heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Test the oil by dropping a small piece of dough into it; if it sizzles and rises, it’s ready.
  8. Fill a piping bag fitted with a large star tip with the churro dough.
  9. Pipe small bite-sized pieces of dough (about 1 inch long) into the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary.
  10. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffed. Use a slotted spoon to turn them gently.
  11. Remove from oil and place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  12. In a shallow bowl, combine granulated sugar and remaining ground cinnamon.
  13. While warm, roll churro bites in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  14. Arrange churro bites on a serving platter. Serve warm or at room temperature.
  15. Drizzle with caramel sauce or serve with chocolate sauce for dipping.
  16. Optionally, sprinkle extra chopped nuts on top before serving.
  17. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes.
  18. For longer storage, freeze in a single layer, then transfer to a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen as mentioned above.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature for optimal frying.
  • Feel free to customize the nuts used in the dough for different flavors.
