Description
Refreshing Kiwi Agua Fresca, a naturally sweet and tangy drink perfect for hot days. Made with fresh kiwis, lime juice, and a touch of sugar, this is a healthy and delicious alternative to sugary drinks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 ripe kiwis, peeled and roughly chopped
- 6 cups cold water, divided
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (or to taste)
- 2 tablespoons lime juice, freshly squeezed
- Ice cubes, for serving
- Lime wedges, for garnish (optional)
- Mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Kiwi Puree: Peel and roughly chop the kiwis.
- Transfer the chopped kiwis to your blender or food processor. Add 2 cups of the cold water.
- Blend the kiwi mixture on high speed until it’s completely smooth. You might need to stop the blender a couple of times to scrape down the sides with a spatula to ensure everything is evenly pureed.
- Strain the kiwi mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to press the kiwi puree against the sieve, extracting as much juice as possible. Discard the solids left in the sieve.
- Sweeten and Flavor: Add the granulated sugar to the pitcher with the strained kiwi puree. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Add the freshly squeezed lime juice.
- Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water to the pitcher.
- Stir everything together thoroughly to ensure all the ingredients are well combined.
- Chill and Serve: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate the agua fresca for at least 30 minutes, or even better, for an hour or two.
- Before serving, give the agua fresca another good stir.
- Fill glasses with ice cubes.
- Pour the chilled kiwi agua fresca over the ice.
- Garnish with lime wedges and mint sprigs, if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Adjust Sweetness: Taste and add more sugar, honey, or agave nectar as needed.
- Other Fruits: Experiment with adding strawberries, pineapple, or cucumber.
- Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of chili powder or jalapeño slices while blending.
- Sparkling: Substitute some still water with sparkling water.
- Freezing: Freeze leftover agua fresca in ice cube trays.
- Lime vs. Lemon: Use lemon juice instead of lime juice for a slightly different flavor.
- Mint Infusion: Muddle mint leaves in the pitcher for a more pronounced mint flavor.
- Ginger Zing: Add a small piece of fresh ginger to the blender for a zesty flavor.
- Make Ahead: Can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
- Kid-Friendly: A great way to get kids to drink more water and consume more fruits.
- Serving Suggestions: Pairs well with spicy foods, grilled meats, salads, and light appetizers.
