Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Wooden skewers (soaked in water for 30 minutes if using)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Lemon wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, BBQ sauce, lemon juice, minced garlic, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until well blended. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  3. Place the shrimp in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish.
  4. Pour the marinade over the shrimp, ensuring each piece is well coated.
  5. Seal the bag or cover the dish with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours for enhanced flavor).
  6. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. For charcoal grills, ensure coals are evenly distributed and glowing red.
  7. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent burning.
  8. After marinating, remove the shrimp from the refrigerator.
  9. Thread the shrimp onto the skewers, about 4-5 shrimp per skewer, leaving space between each for even cooking.
  10. Discard any leftover marinade that has come into contact with raw shrimp.
  11. Once the grill is hot, place the skewers on the grill grates.
  12. Grill the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on one side until they start to turn pink and opaque.
  13. Carefully flip the skewers using tongs and grill for another 2-3 minutes on the other side until fully cooked with nice grill marks.
  14. Remove the shrimp from the grill and let them rest for a minute.
  15. Transfer the skewers to a serving platter.
  16. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

  • Choosing Shrimp: Use large or jumbo shrimp for better grilling results.
  • Marinating Time: Longer marinating enhances flavor.
  • Grill Temperature: Ensure the grill is hot to lock in moisture.
  • Don’t Overcook: Shrimp are done when pink and opaque.
