  • Author: Dottie
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 16 pieces 1x

Description

These Pigs in a Blanket are a delightful appetizer featuring breakfast sausages wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and topped with melted cheddar cheese. They’re easy to make and perfect for parties, game days, or a cozy family snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of crescent roll dough (8 oz)
  • 8 breakfast sausages (links or patties)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Optional: maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Open the package of crescent roll dough and unroll it on a clean, flat surface.
  3. Cut each triangle in half lengthwise using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
  4. If using links, leave them whole. If using patties, cut each in half.
  5. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausages until browned and cooked through (5-7 minutes for links, 3-4 minutes for patties). Turn occasionally for even cooking.
  6. Remove from skillet and let cool slightly.
  7. Take a smaller triangle of dough and place a piece of sausage at the wide end.
  8. Sprinkle a small amount of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  9. Roll the dough over the sausage and cheese, tucking in the sides to create a snug wrap. Ensure the point of the triangle is tucked underneath.
  10. In a small bowl, crack the egg and add the tablespoon of milk. Whisk until combined.
  11. Brush the egg wash over each wrapped sausage with a pastry brush.
  12. In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  13. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the top of each wrapped sausage.
  14. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  15. Place the assembled pigs in a blanket on the baking sheet, leaving space between each.
  16. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  17. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  18. Transfer to a serving platter and serve warm or at room temperature. Optionally, serve with maple syrup.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, consider using spicy sausage links or adding a dash of hot sauce to the egg wash.
  • These can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from frozen.
