Description
These Pigs in a Blanket are a delightful appetizer featuring breakfast sausages wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough and topped with melted cheddar cheese. They’re easy to make and perfect for parties, game days, or a cozy family snack!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package of crescent roll dough (8 oz)
- 8 breakfast sausages (links or patties)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 large egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Optional: maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Open the package of crescent roll dough and unroll it on a clean, flat surface.
- Cut each triangle in half lengthwise using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
- If using links, leave them whole. If using patties, cut each in half.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausages until browned and cooked through (5-7 minutes for links, 3-4 minutes for patties). Turn occasionally for even cooking.
- Remove from skillet and let cool slightly.
- Take a smaller triangle of dough and place a piece of sausage at the wide end.
- Sprinkle a small amount of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- Roll the dough over the sausage and cheese, tucking in the sides to create a snug wrap. Ensure the point of the triangle is tucked underneath.
- In a small bowl, crack the egg and add the tablespoon of milk. Whisk until combined.
- Brush the egg wash over each wrapped sausage with a pastry brush.
- In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the top of each wrapped sausage.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Place the assembled pigs in a blanket on the baking sheet, leaving space between each.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Transfer to a serving platter and serve warm or at room temperature. Optionally, serve with maple syrup.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, consider using spicy sausage links or adding a dash of hot sauce to the egg wash.
- These can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just add a few extra minutes to the baking time if baking from frozen.
