Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 4 ounces blue cheese, crumbled
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 cup arugula or spinach
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- Optional: hot sauce for serving
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to mix gently, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb.
- Press the crumbled blue cheese into the center of each patty, folding the edges of the meat over the cheese to seal it inside. Reshape the patties gently.
- Preheat your grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat. Ensure the grates are clean and lightly oiled.
- Place the burger patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on the first side without moving them.
- Flip the patties carefully and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or longer for more well-done. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature (130°F for medium-rare, 160°F for medium).
- If desired, add more blue cheese on top during the last minute of cooking and cover to help it melt.
- Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a toaster for added texture, about 1-2 minutes.
- Mix the mayonnaise with a dash of hot sauce for a spicy spread.
- Wash and dry the arugula or spinach, and slice the tomato and red onion.
- Remove the cooked burgers from the grill or skillet and let them rest for about 5 minutes.
- Spread a tablespoon of the spicy mayonnaise on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
- Place a burger patty on top, showcasing the melted blue cheese.
- Add arugula or spinach, a slice of tomato, and red onion rings.
- Top with the other half of the bun and press down gently.
- Serve the burgers immediately with a side of crispy fries, sweet potato fries, or a fresh salad.
- Offer additional hot sauce on the side for those who enjoy a spicier burger.
Notes
